My experiences prior to entering the Bachelor of Education Program are very diverse. Firstly, I am a mother to a 5 year old which as been the most life changing and rewarding experience I will ever have. Secondly, in 2014 I received my certificate for the Education Assistant and Community Support Worker Program at TRU in 2014. After completing this certificate I volunteered as a Recreation Assistant for the Canim Lake First Nations Band which soon after led into a part-time job. I worked with Indigenous students and facilitated recreation activities for them to take part in after school and during the summer months. It was an incredible experience to have to organize physical activities for them to take part in. Some of these activities included gymnastics, kayaking, running, soccer, floor hockey, volleyball, basketball and crafts as well. I then moved back to Kamloops and began the Police and Justice Studies Program. I completed the first year, but realized it was not the path a wanted to take and that education and working with children was where my heart was. I then worked as a Certified Education Assistant for school district #27 in my hometown of 100 Mile House. This position soon led into working as a Non-Certified Teacher-On-Call. I was going almost everyday to various schools and was working as a TOC in elementary schools, and high schools. At one point I was even called in to substitute the principle at one of the elementary schools. This experience was amazing. If I hadn’t had the opportunity to TOC I don’t believe I would have made it my mission to go back to university to get my teaching certificate. Before moving back to Kamloops to begin my journey to become a teacher I also got hired on as an On-Call CEA for School District #73. I have been working on-call as an CEA and serving at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers for the duration of my studies and am still presently employed with both employers. I have also had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta over the last two years.
